The best Cuban cigar factory for tours is the Real Fabricas de Tabaco Partagas, or just the Partagas Cigar Factory. They produce some of the finest cigars in the world.
I mean, what is more iconic to Cuba than cigars? Most visitors to Havana say the tour is very interesting and a must-see when you are in the city. Just don’t plan on getting cigars at a bargain, because they are no cheaper at the factory than elsewhere.
You can get a guided tour of the factory for about 10 CUC (about $10 USD), and the guides usually speak pretty good English. Other tours are offered in many different languages if English is not your preference. There are several tours each day, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble getting into a group. The tour usually lasts about 45 minutes to an hour.
The building itself is very charming, and dates back to the 19th century. Inside, you can see the bays where the tobacco leaves arrive, and the long tables where the workers roll each cigar by hand. The guide will also teach you to tell fake Cuban cigars from the authentic item.
You won’t be allowed to take any photos while inside this Cuban cigar factory. The aroma of the entire building very strong, and it’s a matter of personal taste whether you like the tobacco smell or not.
One of the unique “features” of the Partagas cigar factory, is that one worker will sit in the rolling room and read aloud to entertain the rest of the cigar-makers.
The Partagas factory is located in the old quarter of Havana, right behind the Capitol Building. The actual street address is Calle Industria 524.
